Walking In The Spirit (Part 2)

Scripture: Gal. 5:25 (NASB 1995) If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.

  • walk in the Spirit” = “yielding to the Holy Spirit’s control, following His lead, and allowing Him to exert His influence over us in everyday life.”
  1. Be Assured About Receiving the New Life of Salvation
  2. Practice a Lifestyle of Dying to Self

Commit to the Process of Renewing your Mind

Rom. 12:2 (NKJV) And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

  • “Do not be conformed”
    • conformed” = “to be similar or identical, formed into the same shape.”
  • “Be transformed”
    • transformed” = “to change in form or character”
  1. We Must Choose to Renew Our Mind
    • renewing your mind” = “interpreting life through the lens of God’s Word and the leadership of the Holy Spirit, rather than through the lens of your experience, trauma, preferences, or the opinions of others."

Eph. 4:23 (AMP) and be continually renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh, untarnished mental and spiritual attitude]

  1. We Must Exercise Discipline to Renew Our Mind

    • Stop believing that you cannot control your thoughts.

II Cor. 10:4-5 (NIV) The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

How to take Thoughts Captive

  • Align your mind with the truth so you can recognize the lies of the enemy.
  • Replace the lies of the enemy with the truth of God’s Word.
  • Reinforce that truth every time the enemy comes at you with the same lies.
  • Change the perspective of your mind.

Romans 8:5-6 (HCSB) For those who live according to the flesh think about the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, about the things of the Spirit. For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set of the Spirit is life and peace.

  1. We Must Focus on Truth to Renew Our Mind

Phil. 4:8 (NASB 1995)Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

  • dwell” = “to evaluate, to calculate”

Focus for Renewing Our Mind

  • “Whatever is true” …reading and mediating on God’s word.
  • “Whatever is honorable” …noble, dignified, and worthy of respect.
  • “Whatever is right” …in harmony with God’s unchanging standards.
  • “Whatever is pure” …morally clean and undefiled.
  • “Whatever is lovely” …gracious, generous, and patient.
  • “Whatever is of good repute” …highly regarded, well thought of.

Prov. 4:23 (NLT) = “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”
