Food for Thought for the week of July 18, 2021

(Readings and questions for the further study of the Book of 2 Timothy)

The Food for Thought this week is designed to be used along with the Daily Dose. Visit for details to subscribe to this free video devotional.

Day 1 – Read Chapter 1: In verse 8, Paul invites Timothy to join him in “suffering for the Gospel.” He then makes a number of statements that could easily be seen as reasons to embrace suffering for the sake of serving and ministering to others. What reasons to serve do you see in these verses, and which one is most motivational to you?

Day 2 – Read Chapter 2: In verses 14-26, Paul tells Timothy how to handle people who disagree with him. What insights do you find in these verses for how to graciously communicate with others who have different opinions about who Jesus is?

Day 3 – Read Chapter 3: Paul describes what the “last days” will be like, and it’s easy to recognize our current reality in that description. In verses 16-17, he explains the Bible’s role in preparing us to serve and minister to others during the “last days.” How prepared do you feel to serve and minister to others? Since a big part of the preparation is intake of God’s Word, are there any changes you’d like to make in how you get God’s Word into your life?

Day 4 – Read Chapter 4: In this chapter, Paul writes several times about his expectation of his imminent death. How might what he says about his preparation for death impact your thoughts about your own death?
