Food for Thought

For the week of November 19, 2023

This weekend, we heard Jesus’ final words from the cross, “It is finished.” Chris went into detail about what was finished at the cross. What have the things on the list he gave meant for your life and faith? Can you think of any ways you have experienced the reality of “it is finished”?

As we enter this week of Thanksgiving, which words or phrases stand out to you in the following passages about the call for us to be thankful?

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 New International Version (NIV) 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 2:6-7 New International Version (NIV) 6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Psalm 107:1-3 New International Version (NIV) 1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. 2 Let the redeemed of the LORD tell their story— those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, 3 those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south.

Isaiah 12:4-5 New International Version (NIV) 4 In that day you will say: “Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is exalted. 5 Sing to the LORD, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world.

As you consider these passages and Jesus’ final words from the cross, what are you thankful for? Take a few moments and begin to list/write down things you are thankful for.

Now, take a look at the things you wrote down. Note any that come as a result of what Jesus did when He died and rose again for you.

Take a moment to thank God for the cross and the things you wrote down.
