Food for Thought for the Week of May 26, 2024

  1. With numerous ideas, opinions, and personal stories we may have heard on what heaven is like, this weekend Chris walked us through Revelation 4 & 5 where we heard what heaven is really like. As you look back over your sermon notes outlining John’s vision of heaven, which one of the 12 images stood out to you the most?

After reading the verse(s) listed with the image you chose, what are some reasons why you chose this one?

  2. As we read through the Psalms, we find that several of them are written as a hymn of praise to God. It’s been said that if any psalm reveals the glory and grandeur of the worship of God, it is Psalm 148, for it is cosmic in its dimensions and yet personal in its intentions.

Psalm 148 New International Version (NIV)
1 Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD from the heavens; praise him in the heights above. 2 Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his heavenly hosts. 3 Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars. 4 Praise him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies. 5 Let them praise the name of the LORD, for at his command they were created, 6 and he established them for ever and ever— he issued a decree that will never pass away. 7 Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, 8 lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding, 9 you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, 10 wild animals and all cattle, small creatures and flying birds, 11 kings of the earth and all nations, you princes and all rulers on earth, 12 young men and women, old men and children. 13 Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens. 14 And he has raised up for his people a horn, the praise of all his faithful servants, of Israel, the people close to his heart. Praise the LORD.

As you read verses 1-6, can you think of a time when you were outdoors and stopped to praise God because of what you saw? What did you see? How did you worship God in that moment?

Read verses 7-14. What do you learn about creation’s participation in worship? Beyond your weekend worship at North Coast, like creation, what are some practical ways you can worship God throughout your week?

The word praise is used 13 times in this psalm. As you reflect on who God is and what He has done for you, fill in the space below by completing the sentence: “God, I praise you…”
