Food for Thought for the Week of June 23, 2024

This weekend, Damean talked about how Revelation 10 is an interlude–a pause–in the midst of judgment. In this chapter, we see the role the Church is called to fulfill during these tumultuous times: DECLARE, CLING, & WITNESS.

DECLARE:

We learned that “the little scroll” in Revelation 10:9-11 refers to God’s spoken truth. It started sweet in John’s mouth but turned sour as it went into his stomach.

• Was there a time in your life when you heard God’s Word and received it joyfully, but later found it difficult to “digest” (obey) as you had to live it out?

• Read Jesus’ prayer for His disciples in John 17:17-18. As a follower of Jesus, how is God’s Word changing you? Where are you being sent to declare His truth to others?

CLING:

One of the hardest truths for Christians to cling to is the idea that we are not meant to understand everything God is doing.

• Read Isaiah 55:8-9 and Proverbs 3:5-6. We see in Isaiah that God thinks differently from us, but Proverbs shows that He is still trustworthy. Is there an area of your life where you feel frustrated or confused by what God is doing or not doing? What do these verses tell you about how God works?

WITNESS:

Damean talked about declaring the “thus sayeth the Lord”s in the circles where we live and work.

• To witness simply means sharing Jesus and how He’s worked in your life. How would you describe your witnessing style? Is there anything you want to change?

Even in tough times, we find hope as Jesus-followers, knowing that we have a clear call to declare, cling, and witness. Take a moment to pray and ask God to show you how to do this in tangible, practical ways.
