DISCUSSION GUIDE

These questions are designed to help groups discuss the weekend teaching while building relationships with each other and applying God’s Word to our lives.

April 12, 2025 | Hebrews 11:6

WARM UP

  1. Have you ever tried a new hobby or activity that turned out to be way harder than you expected? What went hilariously wrong?

  2. Throughout this Foundations series, we’ve discussed God’s existence, evidence for the Bible, why we’re here, Jesus, The Holy Spirit, eternity, discipleship, the church, sex, money, evangelism, and faith. Which of these topics has stood out to you the most, and why?

  3. This weekend, Larry shared some thought-provoking points about faith. Did his message call into question or change any of your views on faith? If so, how?

KNOW IT

  1. Read or listen to Hebrews 11 and pay special attention to the action steps that were taken by these heroes of faith. In what ways did they obey God, and how did God respond to them? Highlight or write down a few that resonate with you.

How does the faith described in Hebrews 11 compare to our modern understanding of faith?

  1. Read Matthew 14:22-33. How does this passage frame faith? Is it big steps or simply staying focused on Jesus–or both?

Peter takes two key actions: boldly getting out of the boat to walk on water and desperately crying out to Jesus as he sinks. Which part of Peter’s experience—stepping out or crying out—do you relate to most, and how so? There’s no wrong answer.

SHARE IT

  1. Who is in your “hall of faith”? In other words, who are the people who have inspired and strengthened your faith through their example?

  2. Can you think of a time when you felt God calling you to do something, but you were afraid to do it? Did you obey, and how did it turn out?

LIVE IT

  1. We learned this weekend that there are two kinds of doubt: the kind that brings fear but we obey God anyway, and the kind that gives way to disobedience. What doubts hold us back from obeying God? How can we get to a place of surrender despite struggling with doubt?

  2. Is there a next step of faith or obedience you feel called to take? Share it with your group so we can pray for and support each other.
