The Foundation of Thanksgiving

The difference between a believer and someone who does not know God is we can be thankful in every situation. (Psalm 100)

  1. ABUNDANT REASONS TO BE THANKFUL
  1. God's Character provides motivation
  1. Perfect promises (2 Peter 1:4) (2 Corinithians 1:20)
  2. Everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3)
  3. Amazing Grace (2 Corinthians 12:9)
  1. God's love provides relationship
  1. Forgiven sin (Psalm 103:12)
  2. Redemption (Ephesians 1:7)
  3. Adoption (Romans 8:15) (1 John 3:1-2)
  4. Everlasting Life (John 10:28) (John 6:47)
  5. Home in Heaven (John 14:1-3)
  1. God's generosity provides provision
  1. His abiding presence (Hebrews 13:5) (Matthew 28:20)
  2. His Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13)
  3. His boundless provision (Phillippians 4:19) (Matthew 6:25-34)
  1. ABUNDANT REASONS TO BE SAVED
  1. The most important reason - God is Holy and you need Him!
  2. These benefits are real, but not automatic.
  3. Believers should live in the state of thanksgiving
  1. Thanks is in the Bible at least 100 times
  2. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

What about you?

  1. Intentionally thank God for at least one thing, first thing in the morning.
  2. Develop an attitude of thankfulness by looking for God in each situation.
  3. Take these scriptures from this morning and use them to thank God each day this week.
