The Pursuit of Righteousness

Matthew 5:6; Galatians 5:22

(Matthew 5:6) (Galatians 5:22)

We are not blessed if we are righteous. We are blessed if we hunger and thirst for righteousness.

  1. HUNGER AND THIRST (Psalm 42:1)

    1. This is a unique construction
    2. “To long for something, to hunger for something”
    3. More than felt need, it is a longing desire for it
  2. RIGHTEOUSNESS

    1. Definition - justification, vindication, acquittal, acquittal that brings life
    2. This is with
      1. God: being pure in heart before God (legally, morally, all consuming)
      2. Man: being pure in heart with our fellow man
  3. SHALL BE SATISFIED

  1. To gorge, supply food in abundance, feed, fill, satisfy - to eat one’s fill
  2. This is complete satisfaction
  1. PATIENCE
    1. Forbearance
    2. Fortitude
    3. Stay with it, willing to work and wait to get it

What about you?

  1. For what do you long? Are you just hungry or are you desperate?

  2. Are you actively seeking to be right with God? With man?

  3. This is the only way to be satisfied

  4. Are you a quitter? Or will you persevere until you are satisfied?
