Purity is not something you see.

  1. Purity is in the heart

    1. Singleness
      1. (Matthew 6:22–23) [22] “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, [23] but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! (ESV)
      2. Open, “Without folds”, open, sincerity (Psalm 86:11)[11] Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name. (ESV)
    2. Cleansed
      1. (Revelation 21:27) [27] But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life. (ESV)
      2. (Revelation 22:14–15) [14] Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. [15] Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. (ESV)
    3. Jesus the example
      1. (1 Peter 2:21–22) [21] For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. [22] He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. (ESV)
    4. Holiness, live for God alone
      1. (Hebrews 12:14) [14] Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. (ESV)
  2. Our heart involves the entire men

    1. Heart not the Head (for emphasis)
    2. Because the heart is the center of our personality, It involves intellect, emotion, will, and spirit.
    3. The heart is the seat of our troubles
      1. Not circumstances, Adam fell in a perfect setting
      2. (Jeremiah 17:9) [9] The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? (ESV)
      3. 2 Chronicles 25:2 [2] And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, yet not with a whole heart. (ESV)
      4. Caleb. (Joshua 14:13–14) [13] Then Joshua blessed him, and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance. [14] Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD, the God of Israel. (ESV)
      5. David. (Psalm 51:10) [10] Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. (ESV)
  3. No man can see God

  1. To gaze with wide open eyes, as at something remarkable. Unlike casual looking and seeing.
  2. (1 Corinthians 13:12) [12] For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. (ESV)
  3. (John 1:18) [18] No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known. (ESV)
  4. (1 John 3:2–3) [2] Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. [3] And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. (ESV)
  1. Goodness is the result of our purity
    1. (Galatians 5:22) [22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, (ESV)
    2. Only 4 times in NT, all Paul
    3. Conveys generosity and benevolence toward someone else, going the second mile when such magnanimity is not required.
    4. “we say “out of the goodness of their heart they . . .”

What about you?

  1. What are you allowing to cloud your heart?
  2. Are you living with the conscious knowledge of seeing God?
  3. Use the fruit of goodness to serve like Jesus.
