Love

Jesus' simple command requires greater strength than any of us naturally possess - it requires the Holy Spirit.

  1. LOVE ONE ANOTHER MEANS WE VALUE ONE ANOTHER

    1. 12 verses that say “love one another”
      1. A new commandment, in type, not fact. John 13:34,35 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another:just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my, if you have love for one another.”
      2. Love is not an option, it is a command. John 15:12,17 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. These things I command you, so that you will love one another.”
      3. Love fulfills the cost of the law. Romans 13:8 “Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.”
      4. Love need the power of God the Holy Spirit. 1 Thessalonians 3:12 “And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we do for you.”
      5. Love is a result of being 1 Thessalonians 4:9 “Now concerning brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another.”
      6. Having a pure heart before God causes brotherly love. 1 Peter 1:22 “Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart.”
      7. Love is the cause of salvation.1 John 3:11 “For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.”
      8. Love is from God and is the proof of salvation. 1 John 4:7,11 “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.”
      9. 2 John 5 “And now I ask you, dear lady - not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginning - that we love one another.”
  2. LOVE ONE ANOTHER MEANS WE ARE VULNERABLE TO ONE ANOTHER

    1. A way of greeting 1 Peter 5:14 “Greet one another with a kiss of love”
    2. We give away affection and show honor. Romans 12:10 “Love one another with brotherly affection, Out do one another in showing honor.”
  3. LOVE ONE ANOTHER ALWAYS INCLUDES A COST

  1. It costs to serve Galatians 5:13 “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.”
  2. It takes self control to love Ephesians 4:2 “with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love.”

What about you?

  1. How will how you show love/change this week?
  2. Who will you make others feel welcome this week at Calvary?
  3. How will you help make Calvary a loving church?
