If you are going look at humility, you must look at Jesus.

  1. HUMILITY MEANS I WILL DEMEAN MYSELF

    1. Demeaning means “damaging or lowering the character, status, or reputation of someone or something.”
    2. Lose yourself John 13:14 “If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, l you also ought to wash one another’s feet.”
    3. THE Example - Lord Jesus Christ
      1. Jesus takes the lowest job for His disciples by washing their feet. John 13:5-6
      2. Jesus had already emptied Himself Philippians 2:5-8. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,[a] 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,[b] 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant,[c] being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
    4. Serve everyone else Galatian 5:13 “For you were called to freedom, brothers. q Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love r serve one another.”
    5. Be the lowest ranking person in the room Philippians 2:3 “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in m humility count others more significant than yourselves. ”
  2. HUMILITY MEANS I WILL FORGIVE OTHERS

    1. THE reason Jesus served the disciples. Philippians 2:4-5 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,
    2. Jesus serves his enemy. John 13:2;26-30
      1. Judas had his feet washed by Jesus
      2. Judas ate the supper with Jesus
    3. Take second place Romans 12:10 “Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.”
    4. Know you are not the smart one Romans 12:16 “Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly.”
  3. Humility means no recognition

  1. Be subject to one another Ephesians 5:21 “ submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.
    1. The Mind of Jesus in the upper room. John 13:1-3
      1. Jesus knew his death was coming
      2. Jesus loved the ones He was leaving
      3. Jesus knew what God had given Him
      4. Jesus knew where He came from
      5. Jesus knew where He was going
  2. We should have the same mind. Philippians 2:5 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,
  3. Embody Humility 1 Peter 5:5 “Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

What about you?

  1. Are you willing to be the lowest in the room in order to serve others?
  2. Are you willing to forgive your enemies in order to serve them?
  3. Are you willing to receive no credit in order to serve others?
