God’s word is reliable, true, and life-changing.

  1. Remember the qualities of being a Christian (2 Peter 1:12-15)

    1. Peter uses the method of repetition
    2. Remembering even though you:
      1. Already know them
      2. Are established in the truth that you have
    3. Peter desires to remind us now because he knows his life is short
    4. Peter’s goal is to make these qualities unforgettable
  2. Trust God’s Word because it is God’s word (2 Peter 1:16-18)

    1. Peter is sure of the truth because he is an eye witness
    2. Peter describes his experience on the Mount of Transfiguration
    3. Peter tells us God the Father points us to Jesus
  3. We have a more sure testimony than Peter’s experience (2 Peter 1:19-21)

  1. Peter tells us that the better we have is the Word of God
    1. Because God the Father. Points to Jesus
    2. Because the Bible tells us about Jesus
    3. Because men wrote it “moved along by” The Holy Spirit.
    4. The scripture is not of a private origin or a private interpretation
  2. Proofs that the Bible is from God are both external and internal
    1. External
      1. Multiple authors
      2. Time (1) Written over many years (2) Written in contemporary time
    2. Internal
      1. Consistent
      2. Honest about flaws of heroes
      3. Practical for our lives
    3. Observable
      1. Testimony of the Holy Spirit
      2. Changed life
      3. Practical help
