2 Corinthians 1:12-22

2 Corinthians 1:12-22

Jesus is the Promise that makes all the promises yes.

  1. Paul loves the Corinthians (2 Corinthians 1:12-14)
    1. Paul’s boast in God in his testimony
      1. Boasting is dangerous if we boast in ourself. Paul boasts on the basis of three things
        1. God is his witness
        2. Paul has dealt with them and all the world with sincerity and trustworthiness and confesses those did not come from him but from God (sincerity means something examined in the light of the sun and found pure, simplicity means with integrity, nothing false or tricky)
        3. Paul does not seek a personal advantage
      2. Paul refers to his conscience (it is a human faculty with which a person either approves or disapprove of their actions)
      3. Jesus saved him
  1. What Paul is saying has already been written and understood
  2. On the day of the Lord, Paul can boast of them, and they of him
  1. Paul follows God’s will (2 Corinthians 1:15-18)

    1. Paul outlines his original plan so that he could benefit them twice.
    2. Paul explains that his plan was not vain promises
    3. Paul frames his reasons within God's will
  2. Paul shows Jesus as the promise of the promises (2 Corinthians 1:19-22)

  1. Paul says that in Jesus it is not yes and no, but only yes.
    1. Includes all the promises (1260 by one count)
    2. God’s promises are irrevocable
    3. He is absolutely trustworthy Numbers 23:19 See also Titus 1:2; Hebrews 6:13-18
    4. He is unchanging Psalms 110:4; Malachi 3:6-7; James 1:17-18
    5. He has the power and will to fulfil his promises Isaiah 55:11 See also Romans 4:21
    6. He is faithful in keeping all his promises Joshua 21:45; Joshua 23:14-15; 1 Kings 8:56; Psalms 145:13; Hebrews 10:23
    7. His promises stem from his goodness and glory 2Peter 1:3-4
    8. God may confirm his promises with an oath Genesis 22:15-18 See also Genesis 26:3; Isaiah 45:23; Amos 6:8; Amos 8:7

      2. They are made in Jesus Christ - The Amen, The true and faithful witness
      3. They are confirmed by the Holy Spirit as a deposit in our hearts.
  3. God continues to bless us because of Jesus
    1. God established us
    2. God anoints us
    3. God gives us The Holy Spirit
    4. He is our guarantee
