(2 Corinthians 11:16-33)

Now is the time to humble yourself and embrace the strength of weakness.

  1. BOASTING MAKES US WEAK (2 Corinthians 11:16-20)
  1. They were mesmerized by the powerful.
  2. We love a good resume
  3. We like impressive leaders
  4. Why does boasting make us weak?
  1. WEAKNESS SHOULD MAKE US BOAST
  1. Boast in our suffering for the cross (can we?)
  2. Boast in our helplessness
  3. “When a person in one of the churches is in need, whether in terms of spiritual peril, material resources, illness, or some other limitation, their apostle is burdened. The needs in the churches affect him, and he is aware of and attentive to those needs. (George Guthrie)
  1. HUMBLE YOURSELF (2 Corinthians 11:30-32)
  1. God resists the proud 1 Peter 5:6 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
  2. Humbling ourselves allows us to live a life of service to others.
  3. John Piper “Humility can only survive in the presence of God, When God goes, humility goes; In fact, you may say humility follows God like a shadow”

Conclusion

  1. Do not be fooled by those who exalt themselves.
  2. When is the last time you suffered for Christ?
  3. Humble yourself.
