Nothing eternal can be achieved unless we walk as a Church in unity under God. TESTS FOR UNITY AMONG THE BROTHERS (2 Corinthians 13:11-13) Finally brothers (all the saints) Tests of accomplishment Rejoice (can be translated farewell. Rejoice is the better choice. Have Joy!) Restore (Try to restore the lost love, broken relationships, errors, truth) Reassure - “Comfort one another” or listen to my appeal(Extend comfort, forgive and seek everyone’s healing) Reconcile - “Agree with one another”(find the right common ground and come to agreement. It takes two to fight and to reconcile) Relax - “live in peace”(live in a sense of wellbeing (peace)) Result of accomplishment God of love and peace will be with you (a promise that God is present in this effort) Greet with a holy kiss (a warm greeting in that culture) All the Saints greet (accept) you (Paul is assuring them that the greater church loves them, prays for them, and wishes for their well being) UNITED IN GOD (2 Corinthians 13:14) The intertwining of gifts and God. Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ (grace is God’s power and salvation given as a gift) (Jesus purchased this for us from God by His sacrificial death) Love of God (Jesus was motivated by the love of God and it is God’s love that gave Jesus to us. Not the OT misunderstanding of God being harsh) Fellowship of The Holy Spirit (We are united by the presence of the Holy Spirit in the church and in the individual) With you all. (Each one, all true believers) Conclusion: Use the five commands in verse 11 to live an intentional life. Claim God’s promise of presence and live in it daily. Maintain the proper attitude of unity in the final benediction in verse 14.
