Mercy in the Silent Rebellion

Jonah 1:17

God’s mercy meets us in every lesson, to transform us not break us.

  1. PROBLEMS

    1. There are problems that frame this verse
    2. A Holy God
    3. A Rebellious Prophet (Jonah is in rebellion, passive vs. active)
    4. A Drowning Prophet
  2. GOD'S PREPARATION

    1. God always prepares in advance
    2. “Appointed”
    3. When did he prepare/appoint this creature?
    4. When did he send it?
  3. GOD'S PURSUIT

  1. God Pursues His purposes
  2. God has never been surprised or taken off guard
  3. God will pursue to the end of the earth to accomplish His will
  1. GOD'S PROVISION

    1. A prepared fish
    2. Probably had food
  2. God’s protection

    1. A place of safety
    2. A place of solitude (To consider his sin)
    3. A place of quiet (to hear God)

Conclusion:

  1. Rebellion looks different for every person. Examine your life for any rebellion.
  2. What mercy has God show you when you have rebelled? Thank Him today!
  3. Do you daily go to that quiet place to hear from God?
