The Power of the Gospel

1 Corinthians 15:1-8; Matthew 27:54; Luke 23:39-43; John 20:24-29

The gospel is the power of God that changes lives.

God:

  1. The Truth of the Gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-8)

    1. The complete overview with no fluff
    2. Three elements with one application
    3. There is evidence — beaucoup evidence!
  2. The Soldier - Confession at the Cross (Matthew 27:54)

    1. A lot of strange occurrences
    2. The soldier saw them
    3. These soldiers have seen at least 100’s of executions on a cross
    4. They are calloused and use to people suffering and dying
    5. This one is different
  3. The Thief — Conversion on the Cross (Luke 23:39-43)

  1. There are two thieves here.
  2. One thief joins in the mocking and cursing
  3. The other thief sees the difference in Jesus
  4. A simple prayer from a desperate place
  5. An eternal promise is made and kept
  1. The Doubter: Thomas - Conviction after the Resurrection (John 20:24-29)

    1. Thomas missed Church that first Sunday
    2. He makes a bold declaration that he thinks he will not be called on
    3. He is not doubting, he is bold and honest
    4. The next week Jesus shows up and calls Thomas to keep his word
    5. Thomas falls down in worship
