Standing Strong in Suffering

Romans 5:1-11

We now can live in peace with God.

1. THE WAR IS OVER

   1. Therefore
   2. We are justified, so what?
   3. We have peace with God. (We have peace with God because Jesus paid the price to take away our sins that made us God’s enemy.

2. WE STAND, NOT STUMBLE (Romans 5:2)

   1. Note the word “also”
   2. Through Jesus we have more,

3. GOD IS AT WORK IN AND THROUGH OUR SUFFERINGS (Romans 5:3-5)

1. We can rejoice in our suffering (Faith, mighty faith, the promise sees, and looks to God alone. Laughs at impossibilities and cries it shall be done” (Charles Wesley)
2. Suffering produces endurance (AV patience)
3. Endurance produces character (trustworthiness)
4. Character produces hope
5. Hope never puts us to shame (Hope never is disappointed)
6. God’s love is poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit (Poured out, into our hearts

4. The extreme love of God in two acts (Romans 5:6-11)

   1. When we were helpless and lost
   2. Salvation is still to come
