From Law to Life

(Romans 7:1-6)

You cannot live for God by the law. You must die to the law and live by the Spirit.

1. THE BINDING OF THE LAW (Romans 7:1-3)

   1. Both Legal and Relational
   2. As long as they are both alive she is bound to him
   3. If she lives with another while he is alive, she is an adulterer
   4. If he dies, she is free from being bond to him and may remarry

2. THE BREAKING OF THE LAW'S BINDING (Romans 7:4)

   1. In Christ, we have died to the law’s jurisdiction. The moment you trusted Jesus, you were united with Him in His death.
   2. The law no longer holds you in bondage—it no longer has authority to condemn you.
   3. You are now joined to Christ, just like the woman is now free to remarry after her husband dies.
   4. What’s the purpose of this new union? To bear fruit for God.
   5. Not just a new life, but a fruitful life.
   6. The law couldn’t produce that—it only aroused sin (v. 5). But Christ produces life and fruit through the Spirit.

3. THE CONTRAST OF THE LAW DRIVER LIFE VERSES LIVING BY THE SPIRIT (Romans 7:5-6)
