If you're a new HomeGroup, take some extended time to get to know one another. For fun, and building on the theme of goodness, what is your favorite summer dessert? This week we began a new series, “If God is Good …..” This series explores what the Bible says about the goodness of God in the face of a broken world. Doug said that for most people, this isn’t just A problem, it is THE problem they have with God.” Have you come across this with people you know? Read Nahum 1:1-7 and review the message outline. What point(s) stood out for you? Nahum’s name means “comfort”, but his book is filled with words of judgement. In what way does Nahum live up to his name? (Hint: The book is addressed to God's people living in Judah). God is described as jealous in vs. 2. Since jealousy is usually seen as a negative trait, how do you think God's jealousy is different? Verse 3 describes God as both patient (slow to anger) and powerful. How do those two things go together? Do they balance each other? Strengthen each other? Conflict with each other? Keep each other in check? Verses 3-6 describe several natural events (and even natural disasters). What do they tell us about God? Since it would be wrong to assume every natural disaster is a punishment from God, what do they tell us? Taking the previous question a step further, what does the current pandemic tell us about God and the world we live in? Take time to share prayer requests and pray together.
