What comes to mind when you hear the word, Saint? If you understand what it truly means it will demystify the pressure you feel to be good enough. At the same time, it will actually enable you to live as God intends.

  1. What do you think of when you hear the word, saint? Someone holier than thou? Someone who puts up with something more than they should? A NFL football player? Other?
  1. Read Romans 1:1-7 and review the outline. What points from the message hit you?
  1. Older translations of verse 7 refer to the recipients of Paul's letter as “saints,” while newer versions use "God’s holy people.” What does each phrase convey? Which do you prefer?
  1. You are loved by God and belong to Him (Romans 1:6-7; Jude 1:1). How does knowing that God loves you and won’t let you go shape your daily life and decisions? In what ways does this truth offer comfort in difficult times?
  1. Paul calls us to be “holy” and “set apart” (Romans 1:1, 5-7). Doug said, “Being set apart from culture doesn’t mean we’re supposed to be weird, or awkward.” What does it mean then?
