HomeGroup Questions:

  1. It’s been a couple weeks since the HomeGroup has been together. Catch up on what you’ve been up to and what you did for Easter.
  1. Read John 20:11–16 and review the outline. What emotions or images stand out to you in this moment between Mary and Jesus? What stands out to you the most about this story? Why do you think this episode is so powerful?
  1. Jesus’ first words after His resurrection were a question: “Who are you looking for?” Earlier in John 1:38, Jesus asks a similar question: “What do you want?” What does it tell us about Jesus that He starts His ministry — and then begins His resurrected ministry — with these similar questions?
  1. Think about the core desires of life (purpose, peace, connection, love, etc.). How might those desires actually be pointing people to Jesus?
  1. Why do you think it’s sometimes hard to recognize that our longings are spiritual in nature?
  1. What does it tell us that Jesus’ first act after rising from the dead was to quietly meet someone in their grief, instead of doing something more dramatic?
  1. Have you ever had a time when disappointment or loss led you to a deeper experience of Jesus?
  1. How could you explain to someone new to the faith what it means that Jesus meets us in both our desires and our disappointments?
  1. Share any prayer request and take time to pray together.
