Psalm 51 walks us all the way through renewal. Not just forgiveness, but deep restoration that reshapes how we live. And it closes with the perfect prayer to turn us outward. And forward. A PRAYER THAT CARRIES US FORWARD: God, Psalm 51:18a But we must understand what does NOT bring God delight: Quick, transactional Psalm 51:16 And then we discover what DOES bring God delight: hearts Psalm 51:17 connection Psalm 51:18 that flow from within Psalm 51:19 Questions for Further Reflection & Discussion Doug shared his humbling experience learning to waterski. What learning experience has been humbling for you? Read Psalm 51:16-19 and review the sermon outline. What stood out for you and why? In the message, Doug said God doesn’t delight in “quick, transactional confession.” Why do you think confession can sometimes feel like a checklist? Look at vs. 17. Why do you think God welcomes those with a “broken spirit and contrite heart”? How would you describe this “heart condition”? How does connecting with others in their struggles deepen your own faith or sense of renewal? The psalm closes with a prayer: “God, may it please You …” How can we shift our focus from “what I want” to “what pleases God”? If you could live one aspect of God’s delight more fully this week, which area would it be (humility, relational connection, or actions from the heart)? Why? Reflect back on the entire series through Psalm 51. What’s one practical way you could let God’s renewal show up in your daily actions this week?
