As we get started, the MOTIVE of Jesus is ALWAYS love

Read “The Rich Young Ruler” from:

  • Matthew 19:16-22
  • Mark 10:17-22
  • Luke 18:18-23

Exodus 20:1-17

GOD 1. No other gods GOD 2. No idols GOD 3. Lord's name in vain GOD 4. Sabbath GOD-MAN 5. Honor mom and dad MAN 6. Murder MAN 7. Adultery MAN 8. Stealing MAN 9. False witness MAN 10. No coveting

Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-28)

And behold, a certain LAWYER stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?” So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and your neighbor as yourself.’ ” And He said to him, “You have answered RIGHTLY; do this and you will live.”

V25 - the LAWYER asked what he had to do to be saved V27 - the LAWYER condensed the 10 commandments into 2 V28 - Jesus said the LAWYER was correct

The idea of the LAW was for it to be written in our HEARTS and not on STONE

  1. Psalms 40:8 – I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.
  2. II Corinthians 3:3 – clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.

SPIRITUAL vs. PHYSICAL realms

PHYSICALLY trying to keep the law does this:

JAMES 2:10 – For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.

Consider some of the things the Scripture says about the Law:

  • The Law strengthened sin (1 Cor. 15:56).
  • The Law was a ministry of death and condemnation (2 Cor. 3:7 and 9).
  • The Law gave guilt and knowledge of sin, not salvation (Rom. 3:19-20).
  • The Law made sin come alive, and killed us (Rom. 7:9)
