"Hearing God"

1 Timothy 4:1-2 (NKJV)

Hearing God prevents our conscience from being seared

  1. The conscience is what discerns right from wrong

    a. The phrase “seared with a hot iron” was translated from one Greek word, “KAUTERIAZO.” This word literally means “to brand (‘cauterize’), i.e. (by implication) to render unsensitive” 


  2. Praying and Fasting is a great way to stay sensitive to God’s Voice

  3. Prayer requires trust

    a. Rom. 8:37says “We are more than conquerors through Him

    b. He’s the only one who knows your beginning and your end.

  4. Fasting requires faith

    a. Fasting is a spiritual discipline that not only requires faith but it also keep the mighty you off the throne of your life

You are a tri-part being Sprit Soul and Body,

  1. When you allow you Spirit and Soul to be in control you’re submitting to God (James 4:7)

    a. God is responsible for what’s His, when you submit to being His, He’s responsible for you

    b. Submitting to God helps you conquer doubt

    c. You’ll doubt yourself way sooner than you doubt God

    d. Conquering doubt frees up your faith to move mountains in your life (Mark 11:22-23)

**Hearing God comes through prayer**

Ephesians 1:15-18 (NKJV)

  1. Prayer produces insight

  2. Prayer brings Boldness and Unity Acts 4:23-24, 29-33 (NKJV)

  3. Prayer allows us to Tap into the Mind of the God .

Prayer and Fasting can draw us closer

  1. Closer to whom? God

    a. Why? So we can hear Him

Psalm 73:28 (NKJV) James 4:8 (NKJV)

  1. What is fasting

    a. Fasting is abstaining from anything that hinders prayer.

    b. Fasting is the voluntary denial of a normal function for the sake of Quality Spiritual activity.

  2. Fasting Does not change God,

    a. Fasting frees us up to Draw near to God

    b. Freeing up time to Hear God is going to enhance your life

Daniel 9:3 (NKJV)

  1. Fasting helps us turn our attention to the Lord

    a. Fasting can subject the physical realm to the spiritual realm

    b. Allowing us to disentangle ourselves from what they say and focus in on what He says

1 Peter 2:11 (NKJV)

  1. Why Fast?

    a. To Strengthen our ability to tune into Dad

    b. Protect us from Becoming Satisfied with Natural and Temporary Things

    c. To Guard Our Hearts from Displacing God as Our Primary Dependency & Delight

    d. To Deny the physical realm mastery over us

Application: How to Hear from God

  1. Be intentional in your listening

    a. Pray and Fast (Dan 9:3)

  2. Spend quality time with Dad (James 4:8)

    1. Get close to Him, Invest time getting to know Him

    2. Don’t be in such a rush to get off your knees

  3. Protect your conscience from being seared

    a. Avoid all lying and hypocrisy

  4. Turn every weakness over the Holy Spirit

    a. Everything that you hide, still has you

  5. Declare Eph 1:17 over yourself
