Ephesians 1:18 (NKJV)

1. The phrase “eyes of your understanding” is a metaphor referring to the ability to perceive with the mind.

a. Just as we can’t see with our physical eyes if we have them closed, none of us can see with our understanding if our minds are closed.

b. We have to have our understanding opened by the Lord to perceive spiritual truth

2. Wisdom and revelation can only be received as the eyes of our hearts are enlightened.

a. Spiritual mindedness is the only way to true life and peace.

**Romans 8:5-6 (NKJV),Isaiah 26:3(NKJV,Romans 12:2 (NKJV)**

3. The end result of receiving this wisdom and revelation was that the church might know (1) “the hope of his calling,” (2) “the riches of the glory of his inheritance,” and (3) “the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward.

4. It’s important to notice that the inheritance that is within us is His inheritance. Everything we have is all through Christ.

Ephesians 1:19(NKJV)

1. Paul was praying that we would get a revelation of the power that we already have. It’s the same power that raised Christ from the dead. That’s all we need.

2. Paul wanted us to know not only God’s power but also the greatness of God’s power and then the exceeding greatness of God’s power.

**a. **We must receive a revelation through our spirits to even grasp a little of God’s exceeding, great power.

3. This great power of God is effectual only for those who believe. We must believe to receive, and if we doubt, we’ll do without.

a. The only part of the bible that will ever work for you is the part that you believe.

Ephesians 1:20 (NKJV)

1. This is showing us Jesus seated in Authority after completing the work that He was sent to do.

Ephesians 1:21(NKJV)

1. This is emphasizing the Lordship of Christ over the church, just as the head dictates and controls the physical body.

a. When anything is placed under the feet of a person, then every single part of that person’s body is positioned above it.

Ephesians 1:23 (NKJV), Ephesians 1:23 (TLB), Ephesians 1:23 (TPT)

1. We are those- who are filled (completed) by Christ, we also complete (fill) him. What a wonderful and humbling mystery that is revealed by this verse.
