The Power for the Mission Acts 1:8(NASB95) Jesus makes it clear that the mission is not carried out in human strength but through the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit transforms fearful disciples into bold witnesses We cannot fulfill God’s calling on our own. Acts 1:9(NASB95) The disciples were standing in awe as Jesus ascended, but the angels reminded them of their task. The mission is urgent because Jesus will return. What’s the message for us today? Are we standing still in amazement, or are we moving forward in obedience? The mission has a clear strategy: start in Jerusalem, then Judea, then Samaria, and ultimately the ends of the earth. We’re called to share the gospel first in our immediate surroundings (family, workplace, community) before reaching outward. Preparing for the Mission Acts 1:12-14 (NKJV) The disciples returned to Jerusalem and devoted themselves to prayer as they waited for the Holy Spirit. Before stepping out on mission, they prepared themselves through unity and prayer. The Purpose of the Mission To advance the Kingdom of God Acts 10:38(NKJV) The early Church was empowered by the Spirit, guided by a clear mission, and made up of people devoted to God’s work. We are part of this same mission. The disciples had a decision to make, they were praying and preparing to replace Judas with Matthias Acts 1:15-20 (NKJV) To say the least, Judas made a horrible, selfish decision that didn’t work out well for him How many believers are still choosing coins over a covenant with Jesus? Application Trust in God’s Timing (Acts 1:7-8) Rely on the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8) Be a Faithful Witness (Acts 1:8) Commit to Prayer and Unity (Acts 1:14) Acts Chapter One sets the stage for the incredible movement of the early Church. As we apply these truths, we can walk in faith, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and be committed to sharing Christ with the world.
