Contemplation
What
you believe about God is the most important knowledge in your life.
His
Name is mysterious,
the ineffable name – I Am What I Am
You
become what you worship
·
Jeremiah 2:5 “This
is what the Lord says: “What fault did your ancestors find in me, that they
strayed so far from me? They followed worthless idols and became worthless
themselves.”
·
Philippians 3:18–21
“For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears,
many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their
god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame.
What does this have to do with the Names of God?
·
Exodus 34:5–8
“Then the Lord came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed
his name, the Lord. And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord,
the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love
and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness,
rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the
children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth
generation.” Moses bowed to the ground at once and worshiped.
·
Exodus 34:14
“Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a
jealous God.”
We are to imitate God as dear children
·
“You
are what your mind looks at. You are what you contemplate.”
·
2 Corinthians 3:18
“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are
being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from
the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
·
Matthew 14:25–31
“Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the
disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,”
they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take
courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell
me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of
the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind,
he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately
Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why
did you doubt?””
Silence & Solitude
1. Looking at God,
looking at you, in love
2. Yielding,
receiving God’s love
3. Resting in His
love
