Hebrews is written to warn apostates. Hebrews 3:12, “Take care, brothers and sisters, that there will not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God.” Prayer is the thermometer of the Christian life. Prayer is the antidote to apostasy. J.C.Ryle, “Prayerlessness is to be without God, – without Christ, – without grace, –without hope, – and without heaven. It is to be in the road to hell.” Hold in Prayer • Hebrews 4:14, “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let’s hold firmly to our confession.” What is the Christian confession at its core? Jesus is the Son of God. Enter in Prayer • Hebrews 4:15, “For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things just as we are, yet without sin.” Go in Prayer • Hebrews 4:16, “Therefore let’s approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for help at the time of our need.” St. Augustine, “You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in you.” Psalm 16:11, “In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.”
