When “Whatever” Seems Right (Judges 17) Key Verse: Judges 21:25, “In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.” The last five chapters of Judges show us what happens when people do whatever seems right in their won eyes. Four thing happen: #1 – Make up your own Judges 17:12 (NLT), Micah installed the Levite as his personal priest, and he lived in Micah’s house. 13 “I know the Lord will bless me now,” Micah said, “because I have a Levite serving as my priest.” When “Whatever” Seems Right (Judges 18) #2 – Evil is done in the of religion. Judges 18:9 (NLT), “Come on, let’s attack them!… 10 When you get there, you will find the people living carefree lives. God has given us a spacious and fertile land, lacking in nothing!” When “Whatever” Seems Right (Judges 19) #3 – Unfaithfulness, confusion/abuse. Judges 19:20 (NLT), “You are welcome to stay with me,” the old man said. “I will give you anything you might need. But whatever you do, don’t spend the night in the square.” When “Whatever” Seems Right (Judges 20-21) #4 – Civil Judges 20:18 (NLT), Before the battle the Israelites went to Bethel and asked God, “Which tribe should go first to attack the people of Benjamin?” The Lord answered, “Judah is to go first.” What happens when all the people do “whatever seems right” in their own eyes? #1 – Do-it-yourself religion happens. #2 – Evil is done in the name of religion. #3 – Unfaithfulness, sexual confusion/abuse happens. #4 – Civil War happens. CONCLUSION: We need a Savior! 2 Peter 2:7 (NLT), But God also rescued Lot out of Sodom because he was a righteous man who was sick of the shameful immorality of the wicked people around him.
