Summer Fruit

WEEK 4: Patience

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Galatians 5:25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.

What is Patience? (Definitions):

“Patience is self-restraint which does not hastily retaliate against a wrong.”

“Patience is the ability to accept delay or disappointment graciously.”

“Patience is the powerful attribute that enables a man or woman to remain steadfast under strain & continue pressing on.”

“Patience is a calm endurance based on the certain knowledge that God is in control.”

Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

The Difficulty of Patience:

  • It goes against human nature.
  • Weeds in our life choke out patience.
  • It’s contrary to our culture
  • We convince ourselves that impatience is a virtue.

The Development of Patience:

  • Abide in Christ.
  • Slow Down.
  • Overlook small frustrations.
  • Give it to God.

Psalms 130:5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope;

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

"But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing."

James 1:4
