1 Corinthians 15:1–11

news!

…I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you,

The word gospel is a translation of the Greek word euangelion, which also means “good news” or “glad tidings.”

What is the gospel of salvation?

What is the good news that offers eternal life?

1 Corinthians 15:1-2 Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. 3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance:

Galatians 1:11-12: I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up. 12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.

The Gospel of Salvation contains three main truths.

Gospel = Sin, Savior, Faith

  1. – We have all sinned and are separated from God. …that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

Isaiah 53:6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

We Are Into Sin – (Inherited sin)

Ephesians 2:3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.

We Belong To The Human Race – (Imputed Sin)

Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—

We Personally Sin: (Personal Sin)

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

This includes:

Sins of commission — wrong things we do

Sins of omission — the right things we fail to do

Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.

  1. – Christ died, was buried and rose again.

1 Corinthians 15:3 …that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

2 Corinthians 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

1 Corinthians 15:4-9 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. 6 After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8 and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born. 9 For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

  1. – Put your trust in Christ.

1 Cor 15:11 Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.

Faith involves three basic elements:

  1. Knowledge – A person must know the facts of the gospel.

  2. Agreement – A person must believe those facts are true.

  3. Trust – A person must personally rely on Jesus Christ for salvation.

The gospel is:

Sin – We have all sinned and are separated from God.

Savior - Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again.

Faith - Will you trust in Christ alone for your salvation?

  1. The gospel is not your faith on someone; it is news. Practice explaining it in your own words.
  1. The gospel is good news about what has done.
