Luke 6: 18 NKJV “As well as those who were tormented with unclean spirits. And they were healed”. The word vex means “to disturb, trouble, or provoke.” James 4:7-8 NKJV “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands , you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded. James 4:10 NKJV Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up”. How to defeat that tormenting spirit that has put you in a place of disruption, frustration, annoyed, irritated and impatient: 1. to God James 4:7 Therefore submit to God In light of the grace offered to the humble, there is only one thing to do: submit to God. This means to order yourself God, to surrender to Him as a conquering , and start receiving the benefits of His reign. John 14:15 NKJV “If you love me keep my commandments” Luke 6:46 NKJV “But why do you call me Lord, Lord, and not do the things which I say”? Spurgen: “I desire to whisper one little truth in your ear, and I pray that it may startle you: You are submitting even now. You say, ‘Not I; am lord of myself.’ I know you think so, but all the while you are submitting to the devil. The verse before us hints at this. ‘Submit yourselves unto God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.’ If you do not submit to God you never will resist the devil, and you will remain constantly under his tyrannical power. Which shall be your master, God or devil, for one of these must? No man is without a master.” (Spurgeon) 2. the devil James 4:7 Resist the devil If you will stand against the devil he will "The devil can wrestle against the Christian, but he cannot pin him.” Hermas Ephesians 6:12 NKJV “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickenness in the heavenly places.” Luke 4:13 KJV “And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season”. 3. Draw to God James 4:8 NKJV “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you, cleanse your hands, you sinners and purify your heart you double minded”. To draw is to join with. 4. Remain James 4:10 NKJV “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will life you up” You can defeat the Spirit of Torment, but you must: • Submit to God ( Obey His Word and His ways) • Resist the devil (stand against anything that is not of God) • Draw near to God ( Dedicate the works of your hands and put the morality of God into your hearts) • Remain humble (Grace comes to the humble and God will lift you above that spirt of Torment. God does not want you to live in torment any longer. He wants to set you free from worry, fear, distractions, feelings of hopelessness
