Breakthrough in Attitudes

Breakthrough Series

The remarkable thing we have is a choice every day regarding the Attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past. We can’t change the fact that people will act a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable.

The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. Research was completed on many successful people to discover the reasons for their success. The five key things were; 1.Intelligence 2.Education 3.Special talents 4.Luck 5.Attitude

The first 4 added together only accounted for 15%, while the right attitude was 85% of the reason for success.

The joy stick in an aeroplane is sometimes referred to as the attitude stick as it controls the altitude and balance of the plane. Your altitude in life is determined by your attitude. An attitude is a mental outlook, a frame of mind. It is our thoughts and feelings about ourselves, about others, about our circumstances.

Rom 12:2(AMPC) Do not be conformed to this world (this age), fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs, but be transformed (changed) by the entire renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove for yourselves what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect in His sight for you.

How are our attitudes changed for the better?

  1. The Word of God. Hebrews 4:12,For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

  2. The Holy Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:17-18, Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

  3. A Prophetic Word or a fresh revelation. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

  4. Forgiveness. Eph 4:29-32 (Tpt)And never let ugly or hateful words come from your mouth, but instead let your words become beautiful gifts that encourage others; do this by speaking words of grace to help them. 30 The Holy Spirit of God has sealed you in Jesus Christ until you experience your full salvation. So never grieve the Spirit of God or take for granted his holy influence in your life. 31 Lay aside bitter words, temper tantrums, revenge, profanity, and insults. 32 But instead be kind and affectionate toward one another. Has God graciously forgiven you? Then graciously forgive one another in the depths of Christ’s love.

We need to have an attitude of gratitude instead of complaining. An attitude of expectation instead of familiarity. An attitude of teachability, always willing to listen, to learn, and to grow, instead of pride and arrogance. A positive attitude instead of negativity. An attitude of kindness and grace, not hardness and judgement. An attitude of Hope instead of fear and worry. You can choose your attitude each day, in every situation. You can’t change your circumstances, but you can change your response. Our attitudes and responses can restrict or enlarge our world.

Ephesians 4:22-24, You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

A few Keys about Attitudes

  1. An attitude on the inside of us usually reflects on the outside through your words and expressions. Eg. Anger, rebellion, fear, peace, joy, hope, faith. Luke 6:45, A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

  2. Attitudes are like magnets. They attract people with similar attitudes. They can pull us in certain directions. My attitude attracts or repels certain people. Have a fresh look and see who is in your world.

  3. The world we live in does not devote itself to making us happy. It is my responsibility to have an attitude that responds and not reacts to life. My focus is so powerful in developing my attitude to things. Your attitude will affect your altitude in life.

  4. No one is born with a certain attitude. We learn them from family and friends. Be thankful to God for we are abundantly blessed. Have an attitude of gratitude.

  5. I can direct my thoughts to work for me or to work against me. With the Holy Spirit’s help I can take wrong thoughts captive. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5(TPT) For although we live in the natural realm, we don’t wage a military campaign employing human weapons, using manipulation to achieve our aims. Instead, our spiritual weapons are energized with divine power to effectively dismantle the defenses behind which people hide. 5 We can demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One.

  6. What do I say when I talk to myself? All of us have to be aware of the self-talk that goes on in our hearts and minds. The Holy Spirit is our Helper, our encourager.

  7. Even a small attitude adjustment can make a huge difference. We are our attitudes and our attitudes are us. God can give us self-control, a fruit of the Spirit.

  8. Attitudes can change. 1 Kings 11:9-12, The Lord became angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice. 10 Although he had forbidden Solomon to follow other gods, Solomon did not keep the Lord’s command. 11 So the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates. 12 Nevertheless, for the sake of David your father, I will not do it during your lifetime. I will tear it out of the hand of your son.

Daniel 3:16-20, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” 19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and his attitude toward them changed. He ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than usual 20 and commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. (The 3 kept a right attitude of trust and faith in God and He supernaturally rescued them. There is another in the Fire, standing next to me.)

Phillipians 2:5 (AMPC)Let this same attitude and purpose and humble mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: Let Him be your example in humility.

Romans 15:5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had.

What attitudes need changing today? To God, yourself or others. You can change and grow with God’s help!!
