Make It Count (Part 1) - Relationships

TEXT: Hebrews 10:24-25

24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

I. We must for each other

  • Hebrews 10:22-23 (NLT),22 Let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.”

READ v. 24

  • In v. 22, we see the phrase, “let us draw near with a true heart”

  • In v. 23, we see the phrase, “let us hold fast the confession of our hope”

  • Now in v. 24, we see the phrase, “let us consider how to stir up one another”

  • The word, “consider” has the connotation of, “having the mind attentively fixed” or “to have continuous care”

  • The phrase, “to stir up” can be translated as “to provoke” or “to incite”

    • NLT, “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.”
    • MSG, “Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out”
  • Hebrews 3:13 (ESV), “But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called ‘today,’ that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.”
    • MSG, “For as long as it’s still God’s Today, keep each other on your toes so sin doesn’t slow down your reflexes.”

II. We must to each other

READ v. 25

  • The phrase, “to meet together” is translated as “assembling together

  • The word, “habit” is translated as “manner” or “custom

  • In v. 25, we see the importance of “encouraging one another

  • The phrase, “as you see the Day drawing near” is in reference to the 2nd coming of Christ
