A Believer’s Guide to Salting The Election Season.

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. 1 Timothy 2:1–4 (NLT)

Big Idea: Jesus didn't call everyone to agree on everything, but he did command his followers to be united in the main thing.

Matthew 5:13 (NLT) 13 “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.

God’s kingdom growth.

John 17:20–24 (NLT)
23 I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.

  • Your biblical convictions force you to critique both political parties, not just the opposing party.

in your country.

  • Your trust in God lets you participate without cynicism because you believe that God will sovereignly accomplish everything He desires.

for your governmental authorities.

1 Timothy 2:1–4 (NLT) I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. HOW THEN SHOULD I LIVE? Some ways forward when it comes to navigating politics in our relationships:

  • Listen to people who don’t experience the world the way you do.
  • Learn from others by being a student instead of a critic.
  • Love people enough to not burn a relational bridge over a political view.
