Make Better Decisions & Take Bolder Action

— A liberating approach to making your best decisions and taking more action —

The “Will of God” Crisis

  • The ‘search for the will of God’ to DIRECT MY LIFE has led to the epidemic of indecision, inaction and instability in our Christian lives.

So what does the ‘Will of God’ even mean?

3 Ways To Think About “Will Of God”

1. God’s ‘will of decree’

2. God’s ‘will of desire’

3. God’s ‘will of direction’ (illusion)

Big Idea: We are to seek God first, love him, obey him and grow to be more like Jesus as we do. Once we’re doing that, we can and should decide to just do something.

Motivation Problem When we’re chasing after what someone else has.

Ecclesiastes 4:4 (NLT) 4 Then I observed that most people are motivated to success because they envy their neighbors. But this, too, is meaningless—like chasing the wind.

“Searching for the will of God” Solution

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (NLT) 13 That’s the whole story. Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty. 14 God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad.

5 Bigger & better questions:

  • Am I surrendered & to God?
  • Do I trust & Jesus?
  • Have I put others ?
  • Will I grow in ?
  • Where could I make a and do right now?

“The way of wisdom is a way of life. If you are a person of prayer, full of regular good counsel from others, and steeped in the truth of the Word, you should begin to make many important decisions instinctively, and some of them even quickly.” ~ Kevin DeYoung

God’s will for your life is simpler, harder, and easier than “finding direction”.

God gives His children the will to walk in His ways.

CONTINUING THE CONVERSATION:

  1. Everyone is driven by something they love or desire. Imagine what kind of “finding God’s will” frustrations might be caused by a heart full of envy and “chasing the wind”?

Ecclesiastes 4:4 (NLT) 4 Then I observed that most people are motivated to success because they envy their neighbors. But this, too, is meaningless—like chasing the wind.

  1. In the end, God will judge us for everything we decide to do. How does that impact your desire to fear & obey him?

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (NLT) 13 That’s the whole story. Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty. 14 God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad.

  1. What does it mean to you to consider that God himself gives His children the will to walk in His ways by giving us a new heart to delight in Him more than giving us a next step to direct our lives.

  2. When you think of the challenges or decisions you’re facing now (or faced in the past), would asking yourself any of these 5 bigger & better questions help you more than “what does God want me to do next?” :

    1. Am I surrendered & submitted to God?
    2. Do I trust & treasure Jesus?
    3. Have I put others first?
    4. Will I grow in holiness?
    5. Where could I make a decision and do something right now?
