LEARNING TO LOVE

  • We tend to operate out of our dislike rather than out of love …

1 John 4:7-12 NIV “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”

1. LOVE ONE ANOTHER

John 13:34-35 NIV “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

What does this look like?

  • Loving one another shows the world that we belong to jesus.

2. LOVE OUR ENEMIES

Matthew 5:43-48 NIV ““You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven . . .

  • Loving your enemies shows them what it is like to belong to jesus.

Luke 6:35 NIV “But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.”

3. LOVE THE UNLOVABLE

WHO IS UNLOVABLE TO YOU?

John 3:16-17 NIV “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” Loving the unlovable reveals the miracle of a love for those who don’t deserve it.

4. LOVE THE ONE WHO LOVED YOU FIRST

1 John 4:16-19 NIV “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.”

LOVING JESUS ALIGNS OUR HEARTS WITH HIS.

  • 1 Corinthians 13 : THE LOVE CHAPTER

1 John 4:11-12 NIV Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”
