Don’t Be A Fool (3/9)

Becoming the Kind of Christian the World Can't Resist

By Pastor Dan Williams, January 16, 2022

Main Idea || Only fools focus on gathering earthly treasure at the cost of growing rich in God.

“Saving faith also includes receiving Jesus as the chief value of one’s life — receiving him as Treasure. I believe that’s what saving faith does when it welcomes, embraces, receives, and trusts Jesus. I would say that because Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21). If he’s not your treasure, your heart is not with him.” ~ John Piper

Chief Purpose of Human Beings:

To glorify God and him forever.

Colossians 3:1–2 (NLT) Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. Matthew 6:33 (NLT) 33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

Some people are .

Luke 12:21 (NLT) 21 “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”

Can I locate where my treasure is (not just earthly wealth)?

“My life would finally be happy if only I had _______ .”

“If ever I lost _______ , my life wouldn’t be worth living.”

Suffering from Human Disappointment:

“I’m happy.”

  • Nicodemus : “something’s missing”
  • Rich Young Ruler : “ what do I still lack? I have it all and still not enough…”

How can you trade in your dissapoinment for one true living God.

Expel the counterfeits by them.

“Expulsive power of a new affection.” ~ Thomas Chalmers

Replace everything with the true & only life giving (“precious”) of Jesus.

Psalm 27:4 (NLT) 4 The one thing I ask of the Lord— the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s perfections…

Matthew 13:44 (NLT) 44 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field.

Jesus: me. me.

Matthew 13:46 (NLT) 46 When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it!

2 Corinthians 4:4 [NLT] 4 Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see…

What can’t unbelievers see because of the demonic blindness that grips them? What can’t they see?

…“ the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.” “For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.”

Jesus: in me.

John 15:5 (NLT) “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.

  • How do you find a balance between pursuing and enjoying success in the world’s eyes and preventing it from becoming your “Precious?”

4. What is it about Jesus that causes you to cherish him as your true and only treasure?
