True & Better Boaz (4/5)

Rest For The Weary

By Pastor Dan Williams, July 24, 2022

BIG IDEA || Jesus is our true & better Boaz who redeems helpless outsiders at full cost to himself.

What’s the problem for them? It’s a law problem.

Without love, the law wasn’t to save her.

Ruth 4:6 (NLT) “Then I can’t redeem it,” the family redeemer replied, “because this might endanger my own estate. You redeem the land; I cannot do it.”

Ruth 4:9-10 (NLT) 9 Then Boaz said to the elders and to the crowd standing around, “You are witnesses that today I have bought from Naomi all the property of Elimelech, Kilion, and Mahlon. 10 And with the land I have acquired Ruth, the Moabite widow of Mahlon, to be my wife. This way she can have a son to carry on the family name of her dead husband and to inherit the family property here in his hometown. You are all witnesses today.”

How & why did Boaz redeem Ruth? (Method)

  • Her redeemer selflessly paid the full .

  • Her redeemer is driven by self-sacrificing .

John 10:11–15 (NLT) 11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep. 12 A hired hand will run when he sees a wolf coming. He will abandon the sheep because they don’t belong to him and he isn’t their shepherd. And so the wolf attacks them and scatters the flock. 13 The hired hand runs away because he’s working only for the money and doesn’t really care about the sheep. 14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me, 15 just as my Father knows me and I know the Father. So I sacrifice my life for the sheep.

  • Our redeemer willingly pays the price because of his compelling love.

John 3:16 (NLT) 16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

  • Deuteronomy 4:37 (NLT) Because he loved your ancestors, he chose to bless their descendants, and he personally brought you out of Egypt with a great display of power.
  • Hosea 11:1 (NLT) When Israel was a child, I loved him, and I called my son out of Egypt.
  • Romans 5:8 (NLT) But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
  • Ephesians 5:25 (NLT) …this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her…
  • Revelation 1:5 (NLT) …All glory to him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding his blood for us.

So what next?

  • Do the things that grow your appreciation & affection for the love of your Redeemer.

    1. Respond.
    2. Refocus.
    3. Reflect.
