Worry & Wealth (6/10)

The Good Life

By Pastor Dan Williams, February 11, 2024

Matthew 6:19-34 (NLT)

Jesus: Seek my kingdom, above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

Make the focus of your life gathering future heavenly treasures, not on gathering material wealth.

19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.

“The Good Life” Principle: your deepest longings flow from what you .

21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

1 John 2:16–17 (NLT) 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. 17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.

“Why am I so unhappy, stressed, anxious, discouraged or mildly depressed.”

Problem 1 — You’re trying to serve masters.

24 “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money. 25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?

  • Ex: birds & flowers

Problem 2 — Your in God is too little.

  • Why do you have so little faith? 31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.

What Now?

1. Reprioritize your attention on pursuing God’s kingdom.

a. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

2. Pay less attention to the uncertainties of tomorrow.

a. 34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
