New Attitude (7/10)

The Good Life

Matthew 7:1-6 (NLT)

Jesus: In my kingdom, I expect a more humble attitude to be expressed toward your misbehaving brother or sister.

How should a Christian behave towards a fellow believer who has misbehaved?

7:1 “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. 2 For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.

Don’t your friend like a hypocrite would.

3 “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? 4 How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite!

Focus on repenting for your own flaws dealing with your friend’s.

5…First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.

Don’t sharing the gospel with everyone.

6 “Don’t waste what is holy on people who are unholy. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.

What Now?

1. Devote more attention to your own soul sifting confession & repentance.

2. You can move on from your hostile “salvation project”.

CONTINUING THE CONVERSATION

1. Why do you think it’s so natural for Christians to harshly judge or condemn another Christian’s sinful failures & flaws?

2. Have you ever had to confess & repent for the “log in your own eye” before confronting someone else for the “speck” (sinful failure & flaw) in theirs?

3. Is there anyone you’ve shared Jesus with who reacted with hostility?

a. How does it feel to know Jesus frees you to “move on” before they turn on & attack you?
