We are SERVANTS & DISCIPLEMAKERS (3/3)

A family of missionary servants, sent as disciples

By Pastor Dan Williams, April 07, 2024

Matthew 20:25–28 (NLT)

We are a family of missionary servants sent to make disciples who make reproducing disciples.

We are .

  • We submit to Jesus as Lord & serve others as though we are serving Jesus.

Matthew 20:25–28 (NLT) 25 But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. 26 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. 28 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

  • We do whatever needs doing, whenever it’s needed, wherever it leads us.

Where do we get the power to serve like Jesus served?

John 13:12-15,17 (NLT) 12 After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing? 13 You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am. 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. 15 I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you… 17 Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.

We are disciples who make disciples.

  • We are “apprentices” of Jesus who take responsibility for our own development & the development of others.

Matthew 28:18–20 (NLT) 18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

What is a Disciple?

“Discipleship is learning to increasingly reflect the image of Jesus by moving from unbelief to belief in the gospel in every area of life, changing what you love and how you live.”

  • Being a disciple of Jesus is the constant reordering of our loves.
  • The mission of the church is to make disciples, not converts, volunteers, attendees, or members.

What do we envision?

VISION

Every believer in a disciple-making .

  • A disciple-making training environment for members.
    • Life on Life | Making disciples means we share life w/ people so we know their stories, know their struggles, and can help each other live in everyday faith & obedience. They also get to know us!
      • 2 Timothy 2:2 (NLT) , Titus 2:6,7 (NLT)
    • Life in Community | Making disciples requires the input, care, encouragement, gifting, and example of a whole group of people. It can’t just be one-on-one.
    • Life on Mission | Making disciples draws us into the mission of sharing the gospel w/friends, neighbors, families, teammates and coworkers. Our small group communities live outwardly, seeking to make the gospel clear through our words and actions to others.

What now?

  1. Trust & treasure Jesus — reorder your loves.
  2. Live & give in community — break free from isolation & aloneness.
  3. Go & show them Jesus — accept your everyday mission.
