Gospel of Mark

Mark 10:42-44 [NLT]

Kingdom Greatness

* The Leader You’ve Had

Mark 10:42 (NLT) So Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them.

WHAT NOW?

Recognize and reject this kind of underlying selfish ambition.

Kingdom Greatness

* The Leader You Want

Mark 10:43–45 (NLT) 43 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else.”

WHAT NOW?

Pursue elevation by remaining low (cross), not by wielding power (crown).

Kingdom Greatness

* The Leader You Need

45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

  • Isaiah 53:5–6 (NLT) 5 But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. 6 All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.

WHAT NOW?

Let Jesus’ “ransom love” lead you to even deeper gratitude for him.

Continuing The Conversation

1. Have you ever been exposed to a leader’s use of dominance, authority, power & position to motivate or control someone? What impact did that approach have?

2. If you were transparent for a minute, where in your life do you catch yourself fishing for or hoping for more recognition or a higher position?

3. Where are the opportunities in your life to serve others more sacrificially?

4. How does Jesus’ willingness to “give His life as a ransom for many” deepen your gratitude for the gospel?
