REPRODUCE (1/4)

Legacy Living

Main Idea

Your faith in God must be received, rehearsed and reproduced—or it will be lost.

Psalm 78:1–7 (NLT) 1 O my people, listen to my instructions. Open your ears to what I am saying, 2 for I will speak to you in a parable. I will teach you hidden lessons from our past— 3 stories we have heard and known, stories our ancestors handed down to us. 4 We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders. 5 For he issued his laws to Jacob; he gave his instructions to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children, 6 so the next generation might know them— even the children not yet born— and they in turn will teach their own children. 7 So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands.

God’s words.

  • Psalm 78:1 (NLT) O my people, listen to my instructions. Open your ears to what I am saying…
  • Psalm 78:2-3 (NLT) …for I will speak to you in a parable. I will teach you hidden lessons from our past—...3 stories we have heard and known, stories our ancestors handed down to us.

God’s glorious truths.

  • Psalm 78:4 (NLT) We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders.
  • Psalm 78:5 (NLT) For he issued his laws to Jacob; he gave his instructions to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children,…

your faith.

  • Psalm 78:6–7 (NLT) 6 so the next generation might know them— even the children not yet born— and they in turn will teach their own children. 7 So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands.

What Now?

  • Aim to pass on a living witness of God’s life changing power, not just God’s Bible verses.

Continuing the Conversation

1. Who handed faith to you, and who will you hand it to next?

2. What competes for your attention more than God’s voice right now?

3. What past moment (in Scripture or in your life) has taught you something lasting about God?

4. Are there any ways you could intentionally teach or model something about God this week to someone younger in faith?
