Do As Jesus Did: Empowered

WITNESS (Def)

Showing and sharing the good news of Jesus so others see and hear His Way through our lives.

Big Idea — Jesus gives us the Spirit for life and baptizes us in the Spirit for witness.

John 20:21 (NLT) Again he said, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.’

Jesus Doesn’t Just Give Us a Mission—He Gives Us His Spirit for the Power to go.

  • Matthew 28:18–19 (NLT) 18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Go with new Holy Spirit .

John 20:22 (NLT) Then he breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’

  • EVIDENCE: FRUIT. Fruit of repentance. Fruit of the Spirit.
  • John 1:33 (NLT) The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.

Go with a new Holy Spirit .

  • Acts 1:4 (NLT) Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before.
  • Acts 1:5 (NLT) John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

Go with a new Holy Spirit .

  • Acts 1:8 (NLT) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses…
  • Acts 2:1-4 (NLT) On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. There was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.

What Now?

1. Receive His new life & seek his new power.

2. Boldly tell your story.

Continuing the Conversation

1. Who around you does it seem God might already be at work in?

2. What would it look like for you to depend on the Holy Spirit in your witness this week?

3. How might you intentionally “seek” the baptism in the Holy Spirit this week?
