When Leaders Fail Us

By Chris Reitmayer, March 16, 2021
  1. The failure of human leaders is a central theme throughout the Bible.
  • Adam & Eve - Genesis 2 & 3
  • Abraham - Genesis 12-16, 21
  • Aaron & Moses - Exodus 32, Numbers 20:1-12
  • Gideon - Judges 6-8 (in particular Judges 8:22-27)
  • Samson - Judges 13-16
  • Kings - 1 & 2 Kings
  • David - 2 Samuel 11-12
  • Hymenaeus & Alexander - 1 Timothy 1:18-20
  • Peter - Galatians 2:11-14
  1. God takes sin seriously, and we should too. Acts 4:36-5:10
  1. We keep our eyes firmly fixed on Christ

Hebrew 12:1-3 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
