The Foundation For Making Wise Decisions

—Proverbs 3:5-7 (Three Commands, One Promise & One Warning)

Command #1: in the Lord with all your heart… (vs. 5)

Command #2: not on your own understanding… (vs. 5)

Command #3: In all your ways him… (vs.6)

God’s Promise: He will make your paths . (vs. 6)

God’s Warning: Do not be in your own eyes…. (vs. 7)

Do As I Say, Not As I Do

As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father had been. 1 Kings 11:4 (NIV)

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

The Challenge: Apply Proverbs 3:5-7 to your next decision

For God so loved the world, that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 (NIV)

  • Which of the three commands by Solomon is the most challenging to apply when making a decision?

  • What is one big decision you are facing right now? How will you approach it in light of Proverbs 3:5-7?
