Bulletin Identifying as a dwelling place Psalms 91:1 (NKJV) He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. John 16:32-33 (NKJV) 32 Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." When the big storm arrives, where you are living has everything to do with how certain you are of weathering it. Of course, it’s important to actually be inside when the wind, hail, and lightening threaten, but the progress of the dwelling’s construction and its current maintenance status also have everything to do with how well you sleep through the storm. Identity and security are directly connected to one’s address and the ability of that home to withstand an onslaught. To be located high above the flood waters in the side of a mountain inspires much less storm anxiety than a location in the valley next to a sandy riverbed. This is a critical part of confidence when facing the storm. David had a very healthy identity with his dwelling place. Who he was and the storms he was more than capable of weathering had everything to do with his abiding in the secret place of the Most High. Jesus indicated that because He dwelt in the Father and the Father in Him, He would not be alone in any storm that He would encounter. It was because of His identity both as a ‘resident’ and ‘residence’ that He would be prepared – even for the cross. In order for Him to have that relationship with the Father, though, He couldn’t have a dual residence, where most of the time He was actually hanging out somewhere else. To withstand the unforeseen flash storm, He had to have long-term single residence. His identity was His residence with His Father. Therefore, His confidence was literally through the roof against any approaching storm. Notes Weathering the Storm - Review A Storm is coming Preparing for the right storm is critical To be in Christ is to abide in a residence that will withstand any storm. Who are you? Where do you live? What is the status of that dwelling – its construction/maintenance? IDENTIFYING AS A DWELLING PLACE – OF/IN When your choice is occupying/dwelling – identity is abiding Psalms 91:1 (NKJV) He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. With new birth – Christ is welcomed in to live instead of old man Galatians 2:20 (NKJV) 20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. ‘Residence’/’Resident’ John 14:10 (NKJV) 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. ‘Residence’ – new birth Revelation 3:20 (NKJV) 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. Weathering is enabled when His ’resident’ John 16:32-33 (NKJV) 32 Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone. To be ‘In’/’resident’ - sanctify Thayer Definition: to render or acknowledge, or to be venerable or hallow to separate from profane things and dedicate to God Jesus’ prayer for them to be ‘residents’ John 17:13-26 (NKJV) 13 But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth. 20 "I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. 24 “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. 26 And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” ‘Resident’ of weathering Psalms 32:6-7 (NKJV) 6 For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You In a time when You may be found; Surely in a flood of great waters They shall not come near him. 7 You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah Psalms 91:9-11 (NKJV) 9 Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, 10 No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; 11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways.
