Calling On The Name Of The Lord

Psalms 18:3 (NKJV) 3 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.

Romans 10:12-13 (NIV) 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Depending on the type of challenging circumstance you’re experiencing, it is necessary to find out who you can call to help resolve it. Rather than just calling some random number, there are several ways of finding the person who will do an adequate job. A web search, Yelp, social media request, or personal reference will usually provide some options. Reputation is key. Someone may be capable of figuring it out, but there is great risk that the situation may become even more detrimental unless this person has developed a name for resolving the particular area of need. The more positive reviews with favorable references and testimonies, the greater the assurance there will be a positive outcome. No matter the potential, without a list of previous successes, there is very little reason for confidence going forward.

While there are an endless number of specialties that can be called upon, all of those who will do the calling can be divided into 2 groups – those who depend most upon what can be provided by earthly solutions, and those who have come to know the name of the Lord as their first call. While it is inevitable that every knee eventually bows and every tongue confesses that Jesus is Lord, until that day comes, only those who place their continual trust in Him get to experience the salvation only He provides. Man has come up with many ingenious solutions to problems, but for the most critical, having to do with this life and beyond, there is no human reference or earthly testimony of a positive outcome. Jesus, though, has endlessly proven a power to save that is only in need of a call. Every single person who lets go of earthly dependance to call upon and identify with the name of Jesus is saved from the most perilous of storms.

Notes

A call to the right One, who is highly praised for prior effectiveness, secures salvation from impending threats.

2 Samuel 22:4 (NKJV) 4 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.

Calling established – “to” and “as”

Genesis 4:25-26 (NIV) 25 Adam made love to his wife again (130 years), and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, saying, “God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.” 26 Seth also had a son (105 years), and he named him Enosh. At that time people began to call on the name of the LORD.

Genesis 4:26 (TLB) 26 When Seth grew up, he had a son and named him Enosh (meaning “frail” or "mortal"). It was during his lifetime that men first began to call themselves “the Lord’s people.”

There is a division established in the earth between those who place their allegiance, dependance and identity upon the accomplishments and renown of earthly men vs those who place these things on the name of the Lord.

Calling upon the name of the Lord vs cursing the name of the Lord

Only qualification – a humility-requiring call

Joel 2:28-32 (NIV) 28 "And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. 29 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days. 30 I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. 31 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. 32 And everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the LORD has said, even among the survivors whom the LORD calls.

Everyone

Romans 10:12-13 (NIV) 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Identified by departure from earthly lordship to heavenly calling

2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV) 14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Way to complete salvation

Hebrews 7:25 (NIV) 25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
